Make the most of it Socks

The idea was to test if one 100g skein of sock yarn is enough to knit myself just-below-the-knee socks with cuff and toe in a contrasting yarn.

The answer is yes! πŸ˜€
I finished with about 3 grams left ^^

Yarn
Hedgehog Fibres Sock yarn – Potluck
Tre Liz Ares – Ice Sky

First thing to do is weight the main skein and separate it in two balls of equal weight.

Gauge
36 sts and 42 rows for 10cm x 10cm (unwashed)
2.5 mm needles
Size is EUR 38

Toe
Co. 32 sts with contrasting colour.
German short-row toe:
WS Purl 31 sts, turn
RS GSR, knit to end of row, turn
WS GRS, purl to last st before wrap, turn
RS GRS, knit to last st before wrap, turn
Repeat last two rows until 8 unwrapped sts left – 12 wrapped sts each side.
WS Slip 1, purl to wrapped sts, purl it making sure to take both strands, turn
RS Slip 1, knit to wrapped sts, knit it making sure to take both strands, turn
Repeat until all wrapped sts are worked.
Cut yarn.

Feet
With main colour, pick up 32 sts from cast on and start working in the round.
Knit 44 rows.

Gusset and heel
I used Toe-up Socks With a Difference (link to pdf) for gusset and heel, with german short rows and M1L/M1R instead of wraps and KFB.
The pattern is from Wendy D. Johnson (@wendy_knits on Instagram).
I think it worked very well ! I like the gusset being under the feet πŸ™‚

Leg
Back to 64 sts in the round.
Knit 49 rounds.
Start calf increase: increase on round 50 then every 15th round as follow:
(Each even row on chart below is 14 rounds of knitting, maintaining established pattern)

Calf increases

Cuff
76 sts.
Break yarn and start by knitting one round (all knits, no purls) in contrast colour.
Then 39 rounds of 2×2 ribbing, aligned with the pattern from the calf.
Finish with Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off <3 I used this video from Laura Nelkin

Notes for the next pair…
I would increase more stitches for the calf, as the fabric is quite stretched. It’s fine but it could be even better^^
In this case I’ll need more yarn and a 100g skein probably won’t be enough. I guess I would use the contrast colour a bit more, for a few rounds on the feet after the toe, and/or before the cuff πŸ™‚

Big calves ^^
Socks bloquers are too small :p
