Shorties! Picots! Minimal purling! And so quickly finished ^^
Mini-friendly pattern π
Materials
2,5 mm circular needle or DPNs
I usually use a circular needle and magic loop
Typical 4 ply sock yarn (400m for 100g) in three colours: 17g of MC and 14g of each CC1 and CC2 (yay! minis !) for the sock described below (size EU 38/39).
I used
MC Une Louve dans les Bois Lo(u)ve Fine Sock β Little Lady (pink)
CC1 Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn, Advent 2023 mini (variegated)
CC2 Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn, Advent 2023 mini (variegated, slightly lighter than CC1)
Gauge
32 sts/20 rounds for 10 cm on 2,5mm needles
Cuff
Co. 64 sts with MC (here, pink)
Join for knitting in the round, making sure you donβt twist your stitches. Mark the beginning of the round as you see fit.
Knit 7 rounds.
Next round: [yo, ssk] to end.
Cut yarn.
With CC1, knit 7 rounds (do not cut yarn).
Secure ends and mark the 1st stitch of the cast-on edge, to make it easier to find. Fold hem.
Knit each stitch of the next round together with its cast-on counterpart by inserting your right needle into the stitch on you left needles and then through a strand of the cast-on, knit both together.
Hide secured ends inside the hem ^^
Or just knit one more round and sew the hem later if you prefer π (but pay attention to keep enough stretch!)
Leg
Some quick short-rows, to raise the back:
(1) RS K32 sts, turn
(2) WS German short row (GSR), P31, turn
(3) GSR, knit to 3 sts before GSR, turn
(4) GSR, purl to 3 sts before GSR, turn
Knit 5 rounds, do not cut yarn
Heel
The heel will be knitted on the same 32 sts where the short rows are.
Heel flap : with MC (here, pink):
(1) RS [Sl 1, K1] until end of row
(2) WS Sl1, P to end
Repeat those 2 rows a total of 16 times.
It’s easy to count rows on the wrong side of the heel, looking at the slipped stitches π
Turn heel (still with MC – Pink)
(1) RS Sl1, K18, SSK, K1, turn
(2) Sl1, P7, P2tog, P1, turn
Next rows: Sl1, K or P to 1st st before gap, SSK or P2tog, K1 or P1, turn
Continue until all sts are worked.
Cut MC yarn.
With CC1, pick up and knit 16 sts on the side of the heel flap, knit the heel sts and pick up and knit 16 sts on the other side. Knit the 32 sts of the front of the foot.
Gusset
Back to knitting in the round π
Please read also the next section about the fade!
Decrease round:
On the needle holding the heel stitches: k1, ssk, to to 3st before end of needle, K2tog, K1
On the front of foot needle: K all sts
Next round: knit all sts
Alternate these two rounds until back to 32 sts on the “heel” needle, total is 64 sts.
Foot and fading
I faded as follow, alternating CC1 and CC2: 211122112221 (12 rounds, 6 of each colour).
The whole sock for my size (EUR 38) is 64 rounds, where round 1 is the round after the [yo, ssk] round.
Fade placement, what I did:
CC1: 12 rounds for front hem and leg, then 12 rounds gusset then I started the fade sequence.
CC2: fade then knit 28 rounds until toe.
This uses the same amount of CC1 and CC2 but visually, the fade is not in the middle of the sock.
What I’ll do next time:
CC1: 12 rounds for front hem and leg, then 14 rounds gusset then start the fade sequence.
CC2: start the fade then knitted 26 rounds until toe.
Just a slight change ^^
After knitting 52 rounds from gusset (or reaching desired foot length), cut MC2
Toe
Join MC (pink) and knit 1 round
[K6, K2tog] all around, then knit 6 plain rounds
[K5, K2tog] all around, then knit 5 plain rounds
[K4, K2tog] all around, then knit 4 plain rounds
[K3, K2tog] all around, then knit 3 plain rounds
[K2, K2tog] all around, then knit 2 plain rounds
[K1, K2tog] all around, then knit 1 plain rounds
[K2tog] all around, thread yarn through remaining stitches and secure end.
Sew hem if needed, sew in ends and done π
