Chunky Toasty Hood

A chunky toasty hood 😀
Also, a quick knit! It took about 7 hours to make.

Yarns
We are knitters The Petite Wool : 2 skeins (136g were used) – Pearl
Hedgehog Fibres Silk Mohair: 20g – Potluck

Gauge
11 sts and 11 rows for 10cm x 10cm (unwashed)
8 mm needles
Knitted fabric is squishy and drapey.

Cast on 40 sts.
Knit back and forth (flat) for 15 rows, ending with a WS row:
WS k3, [k2,p2] 8 times, k2, sl3wyif
RS k3,[p2,k2] 8 times, p2, sl3wyif
Break yarn and put on hold.
Knit a second identical piece.

Assemble both pieces to knit in the round:
Both pieces should be on the RS (as below picture).
CDD (Centered Double Decrease) on the 3 sts from the i-cord border, knit while maintaining 2×2 rib pattern until 3 sts left on 1st piece, CDD
Repeat for 2nd piece. 72 sts left.
Now 2×2 rib is in place to work in the round. Do so for 15 rounds.

Front opening, knitted flat
K11, bind off 14, knit until end of row. 58 sts left.
Knit in garter st for 36 rows (18 ridges), ending with a WS row.

Closing the hood
K36, ssk, turn.
Sl1, k14, k2tog, turn. Repeat this row until all side stitches are gone, ending with a WS row.
Back loop cast on 2 sts, turn to RS for i-cord bind off.

I-cord
On RS, k2, k2tog, slip sts back to left needles.
Once all live sts have been worked, continue i-cord by picking up stitches from the border:
18 sts on the side
14 sts from ribbing cast-off
18 sts from the other side
Finish by grafting the live i-cord sts to the i-cord cast-on.

I-cord + picking up a st
1. Knit the 2 first i-cord sts, slip the 3rd st to the right needle.
2. Pick up and knit a st from the border
3. Slip the new st + 3rd st
4. K2tog, slip the 3 sts back to to left needle, ready for next repeat.
